Detailed plans from Rainsford Architecture + Design provided a clear understanding that the owners were keen to restore the home to its original characteristics of its time whilst renovating the house liveable for modern day living essentials.
Sympathetic to the existing building and the six surrounding neighbours, the property was in desperate need of a renovation due to the existing rot and aging before it could be restored to its former glory. The site was extremely tight, with no off-street parking all large deliveries had to be moved to the rear of the property via access through the neighbouring properties. We also encounter Covid, the full impact of material shortages and lockdown rules during the build.
The aim was to preserve and retain the structure of the front two rooms including features identifying the age and era of the home. The windows and doors were replaced, the original flooring, staircase and lining boards were retained and given a new life. Working from the rear of the home the building started to take shape. The studio, laundry, kitchen, and bathroom areas were built to suit modern day living needs, no stone was left unturned to ensure visual inspiration between the old and the new did not detract from the existing style of the home.
A beautiful home restoring the front façade to its former glory distinguishing the original house from the new extension. With stunning open plan living, the living rooms crisp white walls and refurbished polished floors provide an inviting area to greet visitors at the door. The living room flows seamlessly into the open kitchen that connects to the alfresco area where one can enjoy a quiet cuppa in amongst the tranquil garden. To respect the heritage value of the original house and provide the owners with a stunning modern home with high end finishes during the pandemic was a wonderful result.
